Question New Coverlay Dash: what 2 do about climate sensor???

I am about to install a new coverlay dash cover on my 85 300D. There is a little climate sensor there. The dash cover came without the hole, but I am told the one with the hole is just cut anyway.

The question is what do I do about the actual sensor piece mounted in the OEM dash. It looks like a little quarter sized vent, but when I pulled it there is a long cylinder of plastic running into the dash with no clear break point. I thought it was just going to be a little cap that I could put in the coverlay.

What do people do here? I dont want some random hole in the dash.

I just put the overlay over the hole and left it. I either run the A/C on full cold with the fan on high or low. Same with the heat. I'm hardly ever in the car long enough to worry about climate control.
