Euro HID help

I have an 85 Euro 300td(t) that the PO had installed HID lights in. They are made by Catz, it seems that they are actually not very good as they overheat the bulb. It just uses a regular bulb but has some sort of capacitor/transformer? that produces a higher voltage for the bulb, causeing the problem with overheating.
Anyways, it seems that one of the capacitors (one per side) has burned out and I can't get a replacement, not that I would want one.
I am looking for advice on what I should do. The original wiring has been changed a bit for the HID install. Should I just try to bring it back to stock? It has Hella's with replaceable bulbs. Is this something that I could handle myself as an amatuer?
