w115 transmission in a w123?

Hi,

will a transmission from a '69 220d fit in my 1980 300d. I ask because I know the 4 bolt transmission was used from that time period till 1980-81. Anybody know.

It'll be a project because it's a standard into my 1980 300d auto, but I just want to know if it'll work mechanically.

i believe some 115 trannys carried over. i believe you need to use model numbers of trannies and vin of cars to cross reference.

so maybe yes.

someone will chime in with the precise info i believe.

If you are talking about an automatic box, boy, there probably aren't many who would really KNOW. I suspect it will work- somewhat. I do not KNOW. Does it have the same inputs (bellcrank, modulator, etc? ) I would check the EPC and see if the TC is the same. Is the output flange the same (will it bolt to your driveshaft)? You might want to call a transmission specialist like Jaggi (jie.com) and ask him.

Or ,
are you asking if a manual gearbox from a 220D will work on an 80 300D? If that is the question, I am pretty sure that will work, with the usual cautions about balancing flywheels etc. The manual gearbox did not change over that time period, IIRC.

220d manual

It's a 220d manual tranny into a 300d auto. I take it it'll require a lot of conversion for clutch etc.
