I don't know the part number, but mine leaked also, so I just bypassed it.

That's the same thing I did.

Of course I gave away a non-leaking one here and have misplaced the other that wasn't. Once my EPC arrives I'll be in business.

No need to replace the whole t-stat... just the O-ring inside. Cost is about a dollar. You can look up the part number in the online Russian EPC:

Bypass the fuel heater thermostat?????

I guess it is ok in the summer and fall, but will cause problems in the winter, I think. The fuel circulates through the fuel thermostat, which is heated by the coolant. That is why the diesel runs better after the car has fully warmed up to operating temperature. The fuel has had a chance to get heated. Notice sometimes after a long run, how hot the fuel in the tank is. That's the function of the thermostat, to heat the fuel so that it will combust better.

I plan to install one on the SD here when I get the chance, I have the extra bits somewhere to do it all.

Exactly. I would only consider a bypass in a warm climate, like San Diego or something. Anywhere it gets cold, fix the t-stat... don't bypass it.

If that was true, than my old 300SD wouldn't have run good in winter, but it did, and it didn't have a fuel heater. But wait, it did have a fuel heater, it's called the injection system Retuning fuel is pretty hot, so it's already heating up the fuel in the tank. I guess the fuel heater might help in severely cold weather, but it doesn't get that cold here.

No problemo. The Russian site is showing a Euro-only version of the EPC, so some USA models are not there, and you get limited functionality - can't do a reverse part lookup, etc. But, it's pretty handy for quick use, if you're not at a PC with the full EPC installed.
