Exclamation PLease chime in... i need input

OK so after my discouraging thread yesterday i took a look at all the problems and took a look at my beloved 240D and decided that im DEFINENTLY in it for the long hall but this thursday im taking a 200 mile trip and wanted a couple peoples input on things.

1- i noticed that my drivers side tire is a little more worn on the inside, is this because of my bad alignment in which i have to hold the stearing wheel a little bit to the left?

2-i noticed my passenger side tie rod is a little loose. my mechanic told me about this in the winter and i investigated today. its just a little loose, i can maybe move it 1-2CM up and down. the other one it tight. THink this is an issue to worrie about before my trip??

everything else seems to be in order from what i can tell, im going to investgate some more and maybe find somthing else

Is there anything else i should check before i go on this short journey or any tips??

thank you

A decent wrench set and a fan belt will get you alot further than a spare tire

?

thank you

When you say 'tie-rod' Do you mean the Steering Tie-rod/track-rod??

IF you have 2CM lift in a track-rod end, Its a Death-Trap!--CHANGE IT NOW!

Can you see the steel in the belt of the tire?

Is the car performing ok otherwise, other than your worn tires and alignment? If you have the money, get it fixed. If not, maybe put the bad tire on the back. But for 200 miles, in a running 240d, I'd go for it without hesitation. You can't just worry about every little thing. Now if the engine felt like it might just drop to the ground at any moment or if the car was running hot near the red line, then I wouldn't trust it. But for a tire issue and you can't see the steel in the tire, and I needed to go, I'd go for it. But make sure your spare is inflated. Also, Mercedes Benz will come change your tire for you for free, if you have a flat. Stick their toll free number in the glove compartment. They'll even give you about four or five gallons of fuel, if you run out of gas. Disclaimer: This is what the brochure says, I've never used it, but I do have the number in my wallet, just in case I ever need to go that route.

2 centimeters of play in a tie rod end is dangerous. I had the center link replaced on the 77 a few weeks ago. I bought the part at Fastlane and the installation was $50 including an alignment. Once I discovered 1 centimeter of play in one end of the center link I did not drive it again until I drove it to the front end shop.

Its the steering tie Rod. and i asked my father about it since he is always working on cars and acouple friends are mechanics and he said not to worry about it, if the tie rod was really going to crap out the tire with the bad tie rod would show funky were, however the tire that i have that has the were on the inside would be the tire with the better tie rod. so im not going to worrie about it. i known it has been loose for some time now, and the loosness hasnt changes, i think when i get back im going to replace that, do a front end alignment and do a rear brake job
