ahh major oil leak
well ive got a major oil leak on the benz, and i have no plans on gettin it fixed. Going today to look for a new car, possibly a wagon, maybe volvo. noticed oil on the ground under the car today, looked, and whole right side has oil everywhere. there was even some on the front left tire. im sure this will be a major repair, and not willing to put the money in it when i want a new car anyway. gonna try to sell it, if not always the junk yard

Think about this,
You might like a Yugo. Test drive it first.

Check the two hoses that come from the engine near the oil filter to the oil cooler next to the radiator. If your car is older than about 25 years the chances are good that one of these hoses is leaking. If you buy these hoses from the MB dealer they will cost you your first born male child. Take the hoses to a parts shop that makes hydraulic hoses and they can make new ones for you. They are not fun to replace but when you are through you will never have to worry about your hands rusting.

Leak on the passenger side? Look at the turbo drain tube as well.

There's no turbo drain hole tube on his car, I'm assuming we're talking about the 1976 300D in his sig.

That big of an oil leak is probably not a major repair as long as you haven't driven it without oil. Before you junk it, offer it for sale to someone on the forum since it is probably easily fixable.

question, not about my car though. what newer cars (1993-2000) are good running cars which will last a lot of miles? (200,000+ like the old benzes) went to look at cars today, and ones in my price range run from about 110,000-150,000) i've hear good things about nissans, honda's toyota's and a few others. buttttttttt then again, ive heard some bad stuff (one of my friends recently bought a 93 nissan, and shes already had to get a power steering leak fixed, and a gas leak fixed..............) i know nothing is like the benzes, (old) but what is #2?

Why on earth would you give up such a good car (with only 108k on it??!?!) because a $35 hose is leaking. Replace the hoses, and drive it another 200k!
Those hoses are cheap for that car! When I did my oil cooler AND lines on my SD it cost me over $450!!

Buddy, go buy yourself a Honda. Oh wait, you'll have to do CV joints every once in a while. If you are too lazy to replace a 35 dollar hose you sure as hell won't want to do CV joints.

I'd recommend a bicycle, but that needs to have the chain lubed every few miles.

What are you looking to spend? Anything Honda and Toyota is a good value, Subaru as well.
Sometimes you can get more buying GM cars because they depreciate at an alarming rate. Anything Buick, and Impala's are usualy good buys.
