The perfect W123
I met a gentlemen who had in my opinion the perfect W123. Heres the details.
1979 all manual 240D, white with a black interior euro bumpers / headlights with factory washing system and true HID lights debadged with "noplugs" liscense plate rip out the OM616 and install a brand new OM617 turbo with 600 miles on it as of now mated to the manual trans. 2.8x rear end from an 85 300D proper wood trim on the center console with all the manual controls 17inch AMG wheels which actually look good. did I mention the car only has 18,000 miles on it. The car looks brand new, its a 99 point car. Its so bizzar. It has an old feeling to it, yet new at the same time. I'll get some pictures when I can. Roy, you remember the car from the Concours d'Musica?

In europe you might have been able to special order a 240d with the five cylinder engine. The reason I casually mention it is that there was a terrorist caught in canada many years ago and his new mercedes 240 was either seized or impounded. A friend of mine got it at a government auction. Had no miles on it yet the five cylinder engine was under the hood. Not a cranked odometer either as when I saw the car it was still almost like new. I will ask him what paperwork he has with the car if any the next time I see him.

You could get a 240 3.0 in europe. But this car was a US spec and he put in a turbo 5.

I would like to see some pictures with the AMG wheels and more details on how he got them to fit. I would like to do something similar on my turbo 240, but maybe not 17s.
Wouldn't that just be a 300, even if it had all manual controls? 240D = 2.4L 616 engine, 300D = 3.0L 617 engine. I've driven a euro 5 cyl wagon with all manual controls and it badged as a 300.

Weird.
How come this guy did a turbo engine swap on such a low milage car? I can understand the swap at 300K like I did, but 18K?

Does it have 18K original miles, or 18K miles on the "restoration"? Sounds nice, except 17-inch wheels would look stupid on any W123.

18k miles period. It was a project for him and it came out well. I usually don't like anything on a W123 except the bunts or wheel covers on the early models. But the wheels he chose look good with the white paint and euroness. <--- That is my word of the day.
