Another GP question

Gp light doesn't come on until 10 seconds after the engine has started...then stays on for 45 ~60 seconds.

I have read mucho threads under GP search and got tired and lazy:D  ...sorry but may I pls. stop searching on this one?:D

Look at Diesel Giant (web site) and do the GP & relay check. Then post results.

How does your car start? Any stumbling or anything to indicate bad plugs?

andmoon 09-26-2006 02:41 PM

She starts w/ a click of the starter. I waited ~20 seconds even though the GP light didn't come on. Rough for 10 secs and then ran normal...It was 55F this morning.

My GP relay tested fine via diesel giant method but my relay doesn't have the strip fuse. 90sdl....what gives?
GP 1 & 2 under .5 oms
3, 4 and 5 gave me .03...is this posible?...not infinite but almost zero...are these bad plugs?
6 .6

Thanks,
Don

this must be on the 90 SDL, they don't have the strip fuse in the glow plug relay. I vote for shorted/ GP relay caused by faulty gp plugs, replace the set and gp relay.

I get battery voltage to the relay when the key is turned....Can this still be a bad relay?
My concern is the close to zero ohm reading on 3 plugs...It says less than .5ohm is good. 0 is less than .5 but is that posible?

Power to the relay is good, but does not rule out a bad relay. Is there power after the relay? Check that by checking voltage at the GP

andmoon 09-29-2006 11:45 AM

Yes power to relay...always.
Power out when key is turned to all 6 prongs.

If you are getting the full 12 volts to the GP's then your relay should be good. Does this problem happen all the time, or when hot or cold starting?

Could be one or two GP's getting questionable, especially since you say the car idles rough for ten seconds or so after sitting overnight.

Happens all the time.
What is strange is that the gp light comes on after the engine is started and stays on for 45~60 seconds.

Since I own a 617, I was wondering if the KLIMA relay can have anything to do with this...

rocketman93116 09-29-2006 12:54 PM

Read this thread focusing on the GP issues, I doubt the KLIMA has any thing to do with the problem.

Dang...they never found the cause...they just replaced all the plugs and relay...a bit of 'car bad buy new one' method.:(

Since I have no clue I will replace the 3 plugs that are reading close to zero ohms and see what happens.
