'87 300D Listing to Starboard
Drove into work this afternoon and parked, hard level asphalt lot. Had gotten there early and had a few minutes to kill before going inside, so I was walking around enjoying the weather. I was behind the beast, about 10 feet away, and turned around to look at it. Something looked odd about it.
It struck me that it looked as though it was leaning to the passenger side. I walked around to the front and looked, same thing, looked to be leaning to the passenger side. I did a quick and dirty comparison with the only measuring instrument available - my hand - from the outside top edge of the tire tread to the outside bottom edge of the wheel well. Noticeable difference - at least 1 to 1 1/2 inches - between driver and passenger side, both front and back. Can't say that I was able to notice any difference in handling on the drive home tonight, but then I've only driven it for around 1200 miles since purchasing it, suspension may have already been heading south when I bought it. And no, it wasn't leaning like this when it was purchased. From checking underneath at various times, the low mileage, and what I know of the car's history, I'd hazard a guess that it still has the original suspension, struts and all. Back on Sunday, I was checking underneath in preparation for changing to Zerex coolant this coming weekend. Looking over at the strut on the passenger side front, it was quite apparent that sometime in the recent past fluid had leaked out the top and ran down the side of the strut. I'm guessing that the rather hefty speedbumps at work helped finish what old age started, and it's time for new struts and a suspension overhaul. Any other problems I should check for, that would be indicated by the difference in height between passenger and driver side, at both front and back? Assuming that all the suspension components are original, what items would you suggest to replace to do a thorough suspension overhaul, to put this problem to rest for several years to come? Any other areas I should consider checking while they have this beast up on the lift? Already had tranny serviced and rear diff fluid changed about a month ago.

Could be worn subframe bushings, sagging springs or even a broken spring. I had the bottom coil of a spring break recently on my SDL.
