Always had a total facination with the Diesel engine from an early age....

Couldnt quite understand when I was a kid, just how an engine could run without spark-plugs....

Had my fair share of petrol vehicles.....Then in the guise of a Rover SD1 -Rover 2.4 SD Turbo (Yes, I know, probably the worst ever put together British car....), The Diesel bug bit properly....Ran that for around 5 years, (well, the engine anyway in a couple of different Rover SD1's...)

Now, its a case of, Is there any other type of engine?-

Often Im offered different cars/vehicles sometimes for free-The first question, Not Is it roadworthy/condition etc etc, But Is it Diesel?--If not (And its not a MB) Then I dont want it!

But the 1978 Cadillac coupe deville in your collection is actuallly a 1979. The '78 had a bigger egg crate grille. I owned a '79 coupe de ville in the same color as the one pictured. You can also see one just like it in the movie from last year "Elizabethtown"

You could even order them with a diesel engine, that horrible GM idea of one anyway, the one that was actually a gas engine that could run on diesel and grenaded constantly.
Thanks, I didn't even know, now I'll be on the lookout to determine (hmm... 78 or 79?). Despite their age, I still see them regularly, probably because they were made in such massive numbers. My mother had a 1978 Coupe DeVille before I was born, it was black, the "landau" portion was black as well, with a black interior, and wire spoke wheel covers. By the time I was born however, she'd stopped driving it in favor of a 85 Mercury Cougar, and was now looking for a nice four door car to haul me around in, and that's when we got the 300SD.

I know all about how massive those cars were. My dad had one, it was brown with a white top, with a tan interior. It had the 5 spoke mag rims GM used on a lot of their cars during that era. He stopped driving it in 85, and it was not roadworthy when he got rid of it in 98. It would start up and move, but not something you'd wanna get on the roads in. It needed EXTENSIVE work.

Hmm what a coincidence, when my dad first brought over the his 64 convertible to his work everyone was drooling over it. It had just came out of my uncles paint shop. One of the phillipino guys came out and said its just like the one i have in the phillipines, except red and its a diesel.

My dad looked at him in confusion, but the guy said they convert many cars to diesel over there since the fuel is cheaper then gas.

I would love a diesel mustang! i would just hate the diesel smell at idle

I had one of these from 1977 to 1989. Mine was white on white, I also transplanted a 455 into it but kept the TH400 automatic behind it (went thru a few of those). This car was FAST and a ton of fun (and trouble I might add). The convertible was heavier than the coupe due to the frame being reinforced. Mine weighed in at 5500 lbs. With only an 18 gallon fuel tank and mileage between 9 and 12, I was a regular at those high priced stations you'd see in the middle of nowhere. And premium fuel only. I had to use Moroso octane booster when Ethyl disappeared.

It was a fun car, it could grab three feet of rubber on the 1-2 upshift. I sold it in 89 for $5,500, I see now they're going for 20-25K.

Well they are common to have over in britain as they are british cars.

They drove one into a swimming pool of some rich peoples house. And the other they blew it up or something.
