Carrier Bearings

So I towed Maggie (83' 300TDT) from Oregon to North Carolina. I got to the house today and was putting the driveline back together and I could not get the two bolts back into the carrier bearing bracket. I had figured it threaded into the body or that the nuts were welded inside where it brackets up, but apperently this is not the case. I do not remember any nuts falling out when i took it apart, but I am unable to find anything to thread into.

I was able to get one in the slot and use sideways pressure to keep it there while I backed it off the tow dolly and up the driveway 30 feet but that was even more than I wanted to push it with out the bracket on there.

I did have a nut that fit the thread so i tried to stick it inside a small opening under the body in hopes I would be able to hold pressure on top of it and thread the bolt in but it was impossible.

Any ideas of what I'm missing here. I want to get Maggie back on the road but she can't like this.

(ohh and she has been on the trailer for 2 1/2 months and she started up on the 3rd try today, so that was promising)

The original "nuts" were steel bars with a threaded hole that fit into the slots where the bearing carrier bolts on. Most likely they fell out when the car was being towed.

Can't help you with the center bearing threads, BUT what part of NC?

Dang, I was afraid of something like that. I guess it is off to the junkyard one of these days. I just have a feeling that those are not something you can get in a parts store, or even from mercedes...but I guess I will check as you never know.

I can't wait to get her back on the road again though. It felt good to hear her clickity clack for the 1 minute I drove her.

I'm just south of Sanford 15 mile off of highway 87. I'm always looking for new mercedes friends in the area. I had a plethora of them in Portland.

I have yet to see one in the area around here but I've only been here 1 day and drove up from SC. I have seen a ton of what appear to be either 350 SDL's down in SC though

PM me if you are near by. I see a lot up for sale in Raleigh and I think I'm about 45 minutes from there.

Hope you find the parts. I can give you the name of someone in Raleigh that might be able to get them. Or look around Fayetteville for a junk yard. If you look at the map I am near the exit for hwy210 & 40. Good luck.
