Floor Jack

For jacking a W123 wagon (300TD) with a floor jack, I can see that the front crossmember is the obvious jacking point. However, I don't see any obvious point in back - what's the jacking point back there? Thanks!

members have used the differential, i would too but with a chunk of wood or something to distribute the load...if i had ramps i would roll it up them, unless your removing the tires.

jack it up by the pumpkin and put jack stands.. viola

I also use the diff for lifting the W126's.

Never had an issue with it. The body is strong enough to bear the load.

Naturally, if you're going underneath, block it at the jack points ahead of the rear wheels.

depends on what you are doing- to change a tire quick I will place the jack under the rear spring. If you need to work on it a bit, getting both sides up, use the pumpkin. and always use jack stands if you will be under the car.

I've seen people use cinder blocks. NEVER use cinder blocks. They give out all at once.

Pumpkin it is

Thanks! I don't use cinder blocks - in fact my jack stands are all rated to handle several times the weight of my wagon. After watching a cheap set of jack stands collapse as I lowered my old beetle (2000 pounds soaking wet) on top of them, I decided to buy heavy duty when it came to lifting and safety equipment.

The back has to come up so I can remove both wheels to fix the brakes as well as to drain the fuel tank.

Whenever I'm under the car, I use jack stands and back that up with a "live" jack. Also, as mentioned, use a block of would with a floor jack. Some of our cars still have the original undercoating, which a metal jack will tear through. If you can find an extra factory jack, they really work amazingly well for lifting, and for a safty back up.
Have fun under that wagon. You'll be there from time to time.......
