300SD cold air intake question

Ive been looking at some different setups for my SD, a few queations, do u really need an oil seperator, or can u just attach one of those little breatherhose filter s to the briether hose? Another thing, if i do need a seperator, can u buy them at any stores, or do they have to be purshased online?
