Wiper Arm Locked in Folded Position after Blade Change

I'm baffled on this one. Have an '87 300D Turbo with the single wiper arm. Folded back the arm, replaced the wiper blade, but now the bloody thing is locked in position, folded up to where you can't raise the hood, and for the life of me I can't figure out how to unlock it.

Checked the FSM and Owners Manual on disc, no help there as to what's going on.

i found a similar result with my e300 the first time i changed the wiper blade (one-wiper also)

I lifted up to change the blade and it seemed "stuck" in the up position 4" off the window glass. Push down real hard to hear the "SNAP" and it will click into place. Yes you may think it is going to break, but I guess this is normal for mine (unless I get corrected by some other e300 owner who actually knows the right way to do this)

Snaps back down into place and goodtogo.

Previously loved
variety, but I miss the 99 F350 PSD- 37k, traded, damn

Current stable

Wiper arm stuck in up position

My wife got the wiper arm stuck like this today when washing her windshield on the 97 E 300. Is this the correct way to get it down? I don't want to break it. I can't find any kind of release.

Mine is stuck up now. It looks like if I push hard enough it will release and then go back into position but I'm afraid of breaking something.

I sprayed some PB Blaster one the U shaped wire piece that is between the springs and it went down much easier.

this is normal, it won't break. I use two hands to do it so I can stop it slamming into the windscreen so fast. I hate the 'clack' sound it makes everytime though...

Mine was "stuck" as well this afternoon. I was quite I would break something but it indeed snapped back down. Not a very good feeling

Put a towel underneath so you won't snap the arm hard into the glass.

It takes way more force than you think is right and you are sure you are going to break it but just keep pushing and it will SNAP back into place.
