Stunning wagon on ebay

I know this isn't a diesel, but I think many might find this car pretty interesting. Look at the seller. I bet he (they) have some nice cars in their collection! I think the rear compartment alone is worth the price of the car.

Oh yeah, I saw that too. Very cool car!

I saw some of those custom mad wagons when I was a teenager, because I lived overseas with my parents. Mostly 114s and 116s. When I was 15 one of our neighbors in Iran had a gold 450SEL wagon. I cant say I particularly liked it, but it sure was interesting. I also saw a 1977 or 78 123 wagon that was custom made, at a trade show in 1978.

I got very excited when I heard that Mercedes was going to build one and import it to the United states.

Located in Bellingham, did yuh notice?

It looks like its built to haul 20 tons of material. It sure does look like the underside of a very heavy duty truck. Yeesh.

It's pretty darn impressive how they came up with a practical independent rear suspension in the 60's.

Yeah most cars in the 60's had leaf springs in the back. Like my dads 64 stangs....shoot a 05 corvette even has leaf springs....thats why i dont consider it a sports car. More like a GM pile of crap with a V8.

Is IRS that impressive to youall?

VW put it in cars in the late 1960's-- along with electronic fuel-injection. This one hasn't got that

The wagon is an impressive sight! That cargo floor is a thing of beauty!

There is a yellow version of one of those in a 007 Bond movie, I think it's "From Russia with Love".

The seller is a hard core enthusiast, he sells alot of rare parts on eBay also. The wagon is a thing a beauty, just the thing to tow a vintage British sports car to a SCCA race. I'm just dreaming, but if I won the lottery......

Not many of those around

I'd sure hate to try and source a replacement taillight for it!

Who made them, Binz?

Ah, a fellow air cooled VW enthusiast! People around here would flip if they saw a "european" Karman Ghia, or a 1964 type 3 notchback. or how about a 21 window micro-bus with a full sunroof? Makes me drool....

I think it was Binz. This website is pretty cool:http://www.mbzponton.org/pax058/people/gunthorp/gunthorp.htm

There were two companies, and they bought the chassis from MB without a roof or rear window or trunk lid.
