Are these people retarded?

Look at this auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1983-240D-Mercedes-diesel-biofeul-veggie-oil-conversion_W0QQitemZ280033835926QQihZ018QQcategoryZ6329QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

This is an automatic (read slow-ass) 240D with high miles, bad paint, no AC, and "converted to operate on biodiesel veggie oil". Currently running for $6000. These people are just plain retarded.

Also look at the bidding history. It's just two Ebay newbie morons. I wonder if this is plain stupidity or a bid-up scam.

The high bidder (and 99% of the other bids) is a 0 feedback.

this is becoming a real problem out here in CA.

Everyone and their mother has a beat up example of one of these, with "low" miles that have a ridiculous price tag attached to it.

Just BS, utter BS.

Anyone that thinks a 240D is slow drives too fast.

Seriously, though-- In town, an automatic 240D is a wonderous thing! It is smooth, quiet and I'd even call it lithe. They're slow on hills and 80mph is very taxing, true. You can't ask for a nicer experience in a car than being in 2nd and 3rd gears in a 240D.

Nicer experience: 2nd and 3rd gears in a 617 powered vehicle, knowing you have 60 more hp on tap than a person in a 240. *Flame suit on*

Don't get me wrong, I love the 240D (as long as it's a manual ). Maybe I came too harsh on the 240D automatics, but the truth is, they are less desirable than the manuals and there's no reason any sane person would pay $6000 for this kind of example, though the fact that it's an automatic is actually the least important issue here.

Something screwy definitely went on here. Watch as it goes up for re-sale soon. Congratulations, buddy. You just won an auction on your own car.

38 bids right now, looks like two people bidding against each other. Looks like it may indeed be a scam.
