um Wow!

I sat through the whole thing, transfixed, with my head atilt, much like my dog does when I ask her math questions...

Hm. somehow grinding your tires down doesn't seem like the greatest idea but it turned out nicely enough. I wouldn't put them on my W123 but I can see the appeal.

Same here, plus, I think whitewall tires look stupid, except maybe on classic cars. Ours don't qualify for that type of "classic" in my opinion.

I have a machine made in Louisanna (I believe) that spins a mounted wheel & knurls off the black rubber. The company also sold a liquid colored rubber compound to really spiff up the finaly product. The machine has a varaible speed driven three cutter head with hardened brass or sintered brass cutters. Even has a seat!
I thought of selling it years ago but it is such a "Hell, I give up. What the !^%@$! is it?"
I called the Co, 10 years ago & they still sold their products. Most were sold to independant guys who also fixed windshield bull's eyes.
You put the car in neutral, jack up the car, roll in the machine, adjust the drive roller & cut away while seated, then coat with the liquid rubber. It took me 10 minutes after practice.
Its been collecting dust for a few years & now needs brushes.
Once I had a guy beliveing it was a portable one wheel dyno.
A local car club is interested in renting it so I better get it p to snuff.
Maybe my white 79 300 SD with WWs and curb fealers!

having lived through the sixties when whitewalls were still standard stuff, i always turn them in if i can only get the tires i want with them. they are a lot of bother to keep clean and they look bad if not clean.

i think on my pastel yellow 53 caddie i did put narrow whites on. but i like the way even caddies look with blackies.

havent you heard? black is beautiful.
