Tank Screen O-Rings in Viton

I finally figured out the size on the tank screen o-ring. I now have viton tank screen o-rings in stock.

In a pinch, is there anything wrong with just swapping the supply and return lines? At least limp home that way, then fix it right?

I ran that way for several hundred miles until I could fill the tank with a less viscous fuel, pump diesel, and add Startron Tank cleaner.

I still have not replaced my screen. I own the screen, but until today, I only had a buna (nitrile) o-ring. My viton ones came in today. I run lots of biodiesel so I did not see a reason to go through all of the trouble to replace the screen and o-ring unless I had a viton o-ring to put in.

That is definately close enough!!!

The TD is very easy, just a 22mm allen socket or key.

1-13/16th 12 point, 3/4 inch drive socket at TSC was $10.99, plus $4.99 or so for a 1/2 to 3/4 drive adapter.

A bit much for a one time use tool, but what are you going to do?

I'm out of time this week. Looks like this will be a Christmas week project.

i purchased a new tank screen months ago but hadn't installed it due to not having a big enough socket. i never thought Norther Tool would have one. just stopped by my local Northern Tool looking for the 1-13/16 and found a 46mm for 11.99 and a 1/2 to 3/4 adapter for 4.99. cool.

thanks for all the info!!!!

Given the rubber o-ring in there, the torque can't be very high. I would guess less than 30 ft lbs.

I got mine off and on with a old-school adjustable wrench. Imagine a pipe wrench with flat ends. At 230k miles, my tank and screen was surprisingly clean.

yeah, you're probably right. i was getting too particular it seems.

not sure if my primer is bad (been running wvo with the 'upgraded' primer, which i hear isn't good for it), or my screen is clogged, or both.

i hope it's not injectors or ip((((

when the tank gets near 1/4 then i have trouble starting...

got the viton washer from the link on this thread, thanks!
and dieselgiant has the primer on the way...i'm opting to clean the screen in the tank rather than get a new one...saw someone on here said acetone...works for me. i'll take that 30$ and put it elsewhere.......like on some barbed nipples for my turbo gauge;PP

In this situation, have you ever taken a peek at the clear inline filter to see if there is a larger than normal air bubble is in there?

I would clean the screen too. They're alot more hardy in person than in pics.

well since i'm running on veggie, i've configured my stuff to only have the spin on filter for diesel. i may opt to put it back on...hmm

FELLAS (and ladies, even though a real lady would probably not be on a stinky diesel forum)

!!!!

i found the problem. check out the pic of my fuel screen! no wonder i was having trouble getting fuel to the lift pump when i had 1/4 of a tank or less!!! the contrast on the camera/phone isn't so good..and picasa didn't help much either....but you can see the black gunk...taht is a totally clogged up screen......and someone mentioned that the holes are so big that it might not clog...LOLz

got one on the way from diesel giant...russell says the new ones are better quality...soooooo...oh and i got a viton gasket on the way too...

wish they'd hurry...good thing i have another auto to drive (not diesel tho

i guess one needs a spare auto when doing all this stuffz

peazy
