Valve Adustment Question

Hello all,

I've searched the forum, but I could not find how much and which direction the lower nut on the valve has to turn to get the proper clearance. I have a 1981 300TDT. The two valves I've tried to adjust (an intake and an exhaust)won't let the feeler guage through no matter how much I turn. BTW I'm using the correct feeler guages, the valve cap(nut) is not turning and the lobe is not touching the rocker arm. I'm stumped and do not want to do any damage to the valve train.

Thanks as always,
Brad Uebelhor

The top nut turns to adjust clearance, the bottom nut is the jam nut.

A DIY Booklet

G'mornin',

Have a look at this website... http://www.**************.com/

This gentleman has a booklet and a "custom Bent" wrench set for sale there, and on e-Bay......mine is scheduled to arrive today.......I purchased the "Valve Adjusting Wrench Set".....mainly because I could not find a tool that I liked, for a reasonable price, anywhere else that I looked.......Phil does not list any on his website......and anything that has an MB Star stamped onto it is way to expensive for my taste......and out here in the boonies there isn't a Snap-On salesman worth a *&%*)(^%.....and MAC dosen't even have a local representative!!!

Luck to ya.....

My valve wrenches have "craftsmen" stamped in them. Seriously I have never used the bent wrenches to adjust the valves. I usually try to work around the injection lines, which is a pain, but when I did the valves a few days ago I pulled them off and it was a cakewalk.

3? Is there one for the large flat nut on the valve too? I have never had any trouble with that one.

i am looking at the set i ordered last year from perf prod(never been screwed by them) the one for the bottom is like a frying pan so it holds the bottom nut in place. looking forward to using them in a couple weeks.
