W126 Belly Pan for SDL
Hi Guys,
My SDL was missing the lower 'belly pan' insulator/skid plate etc when I bought it. Is this a necessary piece? Does it cut down on noise? I guess this may be a dealer item only....

Yeah they make a difference. Mine have been sitting in the shed for going on three years. One of these days I'll get around to bolting them on again!

Yep, they reduce noise, keep drips off your garage floor, and keep road grime off the engine. There are two (I think) for the SDL, a forward one for the engine and a rear one for the tranny. Try to find them used, as you won't like the prices new... and yes, they are a dealer-only item (try FastLane or Rusty).

Check the wrecking yards also, most of them do nt care about panels like that, and you can get them for a song, in most cases.

The factory encapsulation panels are not skid plates.

Always referred to them as "Benz diapers" at the dealership - they catch the crap oozing out of the engine bay... aerodynamically it also helps you eek-out that extra .001 MPG...
