First Snow Of The Season!!! Already???

so i live about 50 miles west of Chicago and today, it snowed for the frist time, it was enough to cover everything, including about a half in on my car. Has anyone ever seen snow on the ground when there are still leafs on the tree's? pretty wierd. this fall its been pretty crazy, it was 80 like a week or so ago and now we have snow.

anywho the temp got pretty low last night, so i go out this morning to start and clean off my 240D it started with 1 glow like usual, but it was making and awful noise and shaking. so i turned it off and let it glow 2 or 3 times, started it agian, and still shaking but not as bad, i turned the the idel screw up and in eventully went away

guess im going to start to winterize. what do i need to do? also does the shaking sound like a bad GP? i think if a 240 had a bad glow plug and it was this cold outside, it wouldnt start on 3 cylenders, so maybe it was just because it got to 15-20 deg. F. and is now like 36 Degs.

just tho0ught i would share my news

Yup, Winter will be here before we know it. Heck it dipped into the lower 60's last night.

I miss the snow. I grew up in Vermont, but I don't get to see much of the stuff here in Alabama.

The trees are starting to turn, but the water is still warm so it stays pretty warm. Temps have been in the 60's, but tomarrow night its supposed to drop to 36!

Snow? I'm going sailing this weekend!:D Not time for snow yet...

Just for comparison, I'm a couple towns east of you in Lombard. It was 39.8 at 5:45 this morning when I left for work. My 1984 300SD glowed for about 10 seconds and lit off like any normal day. Too bad the salt season is coming soon; I'll have to put her in the garage and pull out the beater.

TX, I distinctly remember back in college driving my MGB home on Christmas eve. It was about 7pm, Hattiesburg -> Vicksburg, top down. The air was crisp, the stars were out; that was a nice drive.

30 out this morning, almost an inch of snow on everything, leaves are all still on the trees, got in car, glowed 6-7 seconds, started on one crank. :D

It sure sounds like you need some new glow plugs or a better battery or starter....I'd check those glowplugs. If they are all working it should start down to 0 with one short try, even for a 617. How many miles on it/what oil are you using etc?

We are having a balmy day on eastern Long Island. Overcast and warm. I think the Farmer's Almanac says it is supposed to be a rough winter, but it said that last year too and we were above normal temperature for the weekend.

Northwest Europe is coming off of a record warm summer. The Netherlands had the warmest summer recorded in 300 years.

suppose to be 30's tonight in Saint charles IL. my car started fine this morning, 1 crank like always but it sounded really rough. so i turned it off and glowed it 2-3 times, started up agian, still sounded lousy, but after a min it sounded normal. im not worried about it. suck i just had my oil changed to heh with the oil i use in the summer, might have to re do the change cause its suppose to be only in the 60's later in the week
