are all 10 pin cruise amps the same ?
I have resoldered my cruise amp, now I want to get a spare cruise amp.
Several models offer 10 pin like my 1980 300D. Can I use a cruise amp from a 450SL,280, etc.... Basically a gasser or any other 10 pin of the same era ? Does it have to be a Diesel cruise amp ? Does it have to be a particular part number ? My gut instinct tells me they are all the same. Mercedes was good at reusing technology (which seems to ultimately save cost).

No. They vary for each engine/chassis combo. Mercedes saved money later on by making a single amp that used a 'coding resistor' to adjust for the engine/chassis combos. You'll need one compatible with your specific model.
