Proof you don't need low miles...

See, you can have 290,000miles and still want $15,000.

He probably means that it has 60HP more than the broken engine that was replaced.

Good question, the listing implies that it has a 617, but it looks like a 616 to me and it's listed as a 4 cylinder. BTW, for $15k, they could clean up the engine a bit.

I'd like to know who appraised it. My car would probably be worth $20,000!

It has a 616 engine in it...count the injector lines. That inner fender is NASTY! No bids yet...shocking!

I'm going to ask who appraised it.

Edit: I asked them who appraised it and if I could see a copy of the appraisal.

Anybody else notice that even though the starting bid is $15,000 there is still a reserve?

Like my Realtor said (about my neighbors, not me): "You can ask anything you want for your house. And someday, you will get it. It might be 50 or 100 years from now, though...".

Well as she was delivered, the 240D had 67 H.P. and the claim implied it now has a 5-banger 617 engine in her belly... so IF it is turbocharged, then it might easily have over 120 H.P. so this claim is certainly possible. I wish I have $15K of mad money to throw at this baby!

True, but the engine picture shows a 4 cly 616 engine in it.

If you really want 240D with a turbo I'll give you a special deal. You can have mine for $10,000.

That's a York compressor and the standard air filter. So yes it was 7hp (from the starter ) attached to an engine which produces 60hp.

Here is the question I asked the seller:

"Your claim about the motor being replaced with MB long block, adding 60 HP and making the vehicle the equivalent of a 300D is incorrect. I hope it is an oversight on your part. I have owned several W123 MBs and currently drive an 83 Turbodiesel. The picture of the engine on your listing is not the 5 cyl OM617 NA or turbo motor. It is the 4 cyl 240D motor. Good luck with the sale but honesty might help you get 1/3 of your opening bid price. Again, good luck."

And his response:

"As I have stated in the listing, this vehicle is being listed under the ebay Trading Assistant Program. I have listed information that has been given to me by the owner. I had no reason to disbelieve what the owner gave me for the listing. Regardless I have requested information regarding this problem. What I have recieved back from her is and I quote her, My info says: NOTE: modified improved engine, M-B, with 25% more horsepower (60 HP more). Auto is now equal to 300D (240 + 60 = 300 HP). L.G. (my mechanic, Lloyd Gibson., I am going to speak with him this morning to verify this information. All I can put in the ad is what I have been given, however should I discover this information to be false I will pull the listing. I have never owned a Mercedes and know nothing about them nor have I ever claimed to know. I do not and will not comit any type of fraud knowingly and my feedback shows this. Quite frankly the way you have come at me makes wonder about your knowledge, envy makes some people do odd things."

A 300HP 240D? Now this I have to see! Yes, he's right. Envy makes people do odd things but ignorance makes other people do even odder things.

I love it when sellers are selling something that isn't even theirs, therefore they can avoid all that troublesome responsibility that usually entails standing behind what you sell.

He's an f'n moron who knows nothing; the good news is, there is no way, no way he'll sell that car at that price.

300HP?

I WISH my 300D had 300HP.

Maybe it does. And since it's a Euro, it's meant to drive on the Autobahn, making it faster.. by... lets say... 100hp more. Ooh! Plus, they added a turbo to the Euro while in germany, adding another 60hp!

So, anybody want to buy my Euro 300D (with Turbo)? It comes complete with 300+100+60 = 460 horsepower straight-5, runs on diesel, and gets 35 mpg. I'll sell it cheap at $25,000.
