Chevron Delo 400 in all 4 of my diesels, 1 car 2 trucks and a boat

I use shell rotella 15w-40. Consume 1qt in 3000mi. Tried Mobil Delvac and oil consumption was much worse. Two Indep. mercedes mechanics say use Castol 20w-50. Leith Mercedes dealer in Raleigh, NC says to stick with Rotella. I have 256k on the odo. Other indep. mechs have told me use Rotella. One did confirm what Rick said - switching to synthetic at this mileage would worsen leaks.

Rotella-T in both cars, 300D and300Sd. 3,000 mile interval. Also the farm tractor.

Mobil 1 15W50 in the 300D. Don't need to add any oil in between changes. Doesn't burn or leak any.

Shell Rotella Synthetic 5W-40. Changed every 3000 miles, occasionally up to 4000 if I can't get to it right away.

I can't believe this old oil thread is still going. I just checked my post which said I have 305k on my wagon. I now have 345k on the same engine. You guys with all the extra discretionary income can keep feeding the corporate ads by buying into the tauted special oils, but I will continue to buy any name brand 20/50 oil on sale. Although my 83 300TDT with 345k on the clock doesn't burn any oil, has plenty of power, and fires right up on cold morns, there is a chance that by not using expensive special oil I may not reach 500k. I guess I will just have to take my chances. The other drawback to using cheap oil is that I have nothing to brag or talk about at cocktail parties. I guess that is why I never get invited. These are just the ramblings of a 30 year MB mechanic with millions of miles on MBs if you include client cars with trouble free miles. By the way MB says you should not go to 10 weight on turbos because of the high thermal stresses.

I have always used Agip lubricants in my own cars and at my shop. For those of you not familiar with Agip, they are a very old Italian-based petroleum company and have held the mark of factory fill from manufacturers such as Ferrari and Lamborghini for over 50 years. Good stuff.

Delo 400 in my 83 300D. I have never had any problems with it.


My brother usually uses either Delo 400 or Rotella T in his 82 300SD, again with no problems with either oil....
