oil temperature gauge sender

I have a new VDO gauge for the w116. Is there a place to screw it into the block somewhere? If not I will braze a bung into the pan.

I'm curious as to why you would make the effort to install an oil temperature gauge?

Do you have a specific number in mind that you will not exceed?

Is the location of the sending unit taken into account when you formulate that number?

Will the temperature of the four quarts of oil that are sitting in the sump be of interest to you?

Seems to me that it's a novelty. An EGT gauge for a diesel would be far more valuable.

A few reasons, really. I happen to be replacing the pan, so now seemed like the time to install one. Oil temperature tells you when the car is up to operating temperature more reliably than the head temp gauge in the car. When you know the car is up to operating temperature, you know when it is safe to "romp on it." Also, you can tell by oil temp the second your oil is starting to degrade (you will see higher temps).

The pan is a common place to put the temperature sender, after all, that is where the pump gets oil from. However, temperatures there will be lower than if you put it in say, right before the oil cooler.

Anyway, I already had the pan off and I was already installing a boost gauge, so yea, that is about it.
