Clarification:

The best hood pad is one with a heat shield, provided the hood pad is made from the fiberous material and not foam.

The foam pads suck. If you somehow get a foam pad with a heat shield, return it.

Hood pad…..

Buy OE. They are now only supplied with heat shield. Good quality ~ $50.

Remove all old glue residue with 3M adhesive remover. Sold in cans.

Purchases one can 3M adhesive, glue part number 8090. You can find the glue in Lowe’s for about $12.

Spray most of one can on the pad. Allow thicker coverage around edges.

With the hood vertical, line up pad and gently press along top edge, front.

Then gently press in place.

The pad can be shifted.

After adjusting pad push down all over to ensure good contact.

Close hood and go for cruise.

Thanks,

Zill.

"The pad can be shifted."

UH... it would be best to avoid planning on this ability.

Better to mark the centerline of the hood after it is pristine and mark the pad centerline and perhaps hold along the center with a stick... like a piece of molding.. to bring it up IN LINE with where you want it....

This is a two person job ... and three people would be even nicer...

Most upholstery and jobs like this start in the center and work out to eliminate bubbles or folds... and in this case it may be better to not have the hood straight up and down so that the sticky pad can not swing against the hood too early... gravity, stick of wood, bringing it up in the center and then pressing as you go towards the fenders may give more control.

Zill,

or anyone really. I just got a replacement hood pad from ********Az and I must say that I am sorely disappointed. It's a about $5.00 worth of cheap foam (cut to shape though). I'm sending it back.

But since none of these shops list their pads with pics - who has the OE pads?

I tore mine off, looking forward to a nice OE replacement, but this foam just won't do.

My pad came from an eBay seller, rnrn75. It was $62 plus $9 shipping. It consists of a 1/2 inch layer of foam covered with a thin layer of something that might be a plastic version of felt. There is a thick aluminum foil heat shield (about one square foot) for the turbocharger/exhaust area. It was cust to size and fits well.

I agree that you don't seem to get much for your money. All the suppliers seem to charge a similar amount and the quality of some is really poor.

I would ask you to check with a Mercedes dealer. Report back what they offer and the price.
