********.com is slightly less ($79) but its still up there. if I recall, I think theres a source if you google hood pad. but you have to cut it to shape yourself. ok by me if its much less. post if if you find it or I'll do it too.

I used tile glue

I had trouble with spray adhesives so i took my hood off and turned it upside down and used glue thats used to put down tile floor. Worked great

3M makes a spray-on glue that is specifically designed for things that operate in high-temp locations, like hood pads. It is, however, expensive at about $17 a can. You can get by with one can although I used one and a half. I took the hood off and laid it upside down on sawhorses, then cleaned the underside well and sprayed both pad and hood, let dry, then assembled. Do a search, I posted pictures a few months ago. Others have installed a new pad with the hood still on the car and had success.

The autohauz in the above reply has about the best price around.Mine was only 41 for my 300SD.I installed it with the hood on the car and it worked fine.Just make sure you get the right 3M adhesive. It tells you right on the can what its designed for or ask anybody at the auto supply shop and they will direct you to it.Just be careful if you try doing it on a windy day, stuff goes a long way when it goes!

You can get the spray goop at AutoZoo. 3M stuff. Think it is 03090 on the can. I have done several with the hood on the car in the service position. Did both pads on wife's 560SL, but took hood off and put it flat on sheet to get those right. Did not want to work upside down. Heck, see what your local dealer gets for the pad.

Whatever you do...

don't bother with the crappy foam hood pad sold by Performance and others though WorldPac (PN O2040-16166). It's the one w/o a heat shield.

NOTE: THIS PRODUCT WILL NOT STAND UP TO UNDERHOOD TEMPS FOR MORE THAN 2 YEARS.

which one's the best

am a bit confused now after reading all these responses about which hood pad is most durable - ebay stuff? dealer? online parts?

Plus, someone mentioned its not worth getting one with heat shield......

pic shows my hood now on 84 D.
