Correct running temp for 300cd

Hi. Does anyone know the correct running temperature for a 1984 300cd turbo. The highest temperature my car will reach is just below 80C. Although as soon as I put the interior heater on it drops way down to the mark just above 40C.

Would this be considered normal or is there something I need to look at.

Thanks in advance.

Thats not normal. Sounds like your thermostat is stuck open. Does it take a long to reach 80?

My CD and my wifes D take about 1-1 1/2 miles of driving to reach 80-85. Turning the heater on does not drop the engine tempurature noticably.

It usually takes a good 5-10 minutes of highway driving for it to reach almost 80C, I have never seen it on or over 80C.

Guess I should test the thermostat.

Thanks

I agree, replace the thermostat, would be the first thing too do. You should be running a bit above 80c
