The Tool To Clean The Glow Plug Chamber

Does anybody know where I can get the tool that cleans all the carbon deposit out of the glow plug chamber. I was told that the old glowplugs have carbon build up in the chamber and you have to clean it out before putting in the new glowplugs. Please help.

That is called a glow plug reamer, and it was more critical to use with the old style glow plugs, then the new style. You can look on eBay for used or new, or there are several tool suppliers that sell MB specialty tools including this site, or there may be one available in the tool loan section of this forum.

About $54 cost, and be sure to use anti-sieze on the threads to both create a better seal and make for easier removal the next time. I have read, on other forums, where part of the problem of carbon build-up, around the glow plugs, may be due to poor sealing. I also think that it may be a good idea to always have a short cycle of the glow plugs, even when the engine is warm, helps to prevent this.
