Would new nozzles help my car?
I've a 1985 300D Turbo (CA model) and as far as I know the injectors and nozzles are original. Who knows though with this car.
Anyway, the car starts up perfectly after the glow plug light goes on with not too much smoke. No pinging or nailing or knocking or any bad noises, just a nice 617 idle. Power could be better but I have not timed the IP or had it done (how much would a mechanic charge for this?) The power when im on the highway in 4th gear is rather crappy. I'll give it most throttle I can without hitting the kickdown and there will be some extra noise and then after a couple seconds it will slowly start accelerating. It will probably go 100mph but will take forever to get there. MPG around town is about 20. Best I've ever gotten is 100% highway @ 25mpg. Last time I checked the 0-60 was 15 seconds or so. I have dragging rear calipers, Not too bad but they should be changed soon. I have some extra money and was wondering if people think the Bozio nozzles would help any with power and fuel consumption.

It may or may not, depends on the condition of the nozzles. I have almost 248k on original nozzles, and I still get 26hwy or so, and it will haul ok to 105-110 or so. Make sure your ALDA boost line is clear and ok, and that the alda is working properly etc. Boost levels (13psi max) fuel filters....all those things affect 4th gear power.
Our '83 has bosio nozzles, but it had bad nailing and rough idle, went away with the new nozzles after about 500 miles. Mileage stayed roughly the same.

I might put Bosio's in my 350SD
I'm thinking about putting the Bosio's in my 350SD - the idle was REALLY rough when I got the car several months ago. It has improved significantly since I started running B20 and WVO (GreaseCar) but the idle is still not as smooth as I would like to see it. It is typically very smooth on WVO, but I can feel the difference as soon as I switch to B20 to purge the system, and I still have some smoke under medium/heavy throttle. It's not black smoke since I'm burning WVO. I'm not worried about the smoke for any particular reason other than perhaps it is a sign of incomplete combustion - and I would like to get as complete a burn as possible so I can avoid carbon deposits/polymerization from WVO. It's not something I can't live without at this moment, but ultimately I'd like to get the best performance I can from this motor (as well as do whatever I can to keep it running a long time! )

I'd save my money until I got those dragging brakes fixed, then I'd purge it with Lubro-Moly and adjust valves, clean out ALDA, measure boost and make any adjustments to wastegate, change fuel filters, etc. Basically use all cheap/free options up before I got into those injectors. If you're driving around on dragging brakes though none of that will help, and you're pointlessly using more fuel than you need to be. Definitely fix those brakes first.
One footnote- I got Colorado Biodiesel rebuilts and they're awesome. So awesome I got an extra set. I think TomJ probably uses Bosios now in his rebuilts? However I'm not sure about that. Might be worth asking. Nobody adjusts to finer tolerance than he.

Yeah, have your timing checked. Dragging brakes won't slow
down a 617, THAT much. Also, have your linkages adjustments checked. Just make sure the person knows how to do the timing, whichever method he uses. If you still have problems and you are 100% certain that the timing is spot on, then consider the nozzles but not before changing to new filters and insuring unrestricted fuel flow from the tank all the way to the injectors. Anyway, the IP timing in addition to all of the other associated systems need to be in order, before the nozzles are R&R, in my opinion. But if you have the money, go ahead and get the nozzles, just because you can.

You have a good idle and if car starts pretty good in cold weather it means probably at least pretty fair compression if not better. I Think you will find your timing late and perhaps the cam needing a correction key. Evaluate you boost and get it up to par if it is not. The smoke itself points to late timing I think. Then decide what you want to do injector wise. Do not forget to set the valves as well if overdue. The primary tune up might net you a few miles per gallon as well. It is not a waste of time and energy as even if you suspect that everything was in good shape you know it for sure after. I do not think in your case the poor aceleration is worn out injectors. Make sure to check the chain guides for condition when in there. I suspect the tune up is going to suprise you.
