Diesel Purge question please!
Does a diesel purge affect the engine oil in any way?
I guess what Im asking is should I perform an oil and filter change after doing a diesel purge, and performing a primary and secondary fuel filter replacement is a must also after a purge? Best regards to all Dan Vancouver Canada |

depending on how much black gunk comes out of the fuel system you should change the fuel filters. As for the oil and filter well diesel purge is 65% diesel fuel so think of it more as an additive and therefore there is no real need to change the oil.
when i performed a diesel purge on my 87 no black gunk came out into the bottle because i had been running wvo and biodiesel which cleans out the fuel system. When i did it on my friends 81 300SD black gunk came out and clogged the filter, his fuel system was filthy! but with 600K miles on that engine being ran on diesel for its entire life i dont see why it wouldnt be that dirty!

Did Diesel Purge help even with WVO/BioDiesel?
Quote:
Did the Diesel Purge still make a significant difference even though you were running wvo and biodiesel and had no black gunk in your fuel system? I have only been running B20 and WVO consistently for about a month - should I hold off on the diesel purge and let the grease work on it a bit longer? Even in just the last month the difference in performance has been pretty astounding - the car went from a really rough idle when I got it back in June to a nice and smooth idle now - on WVO. It still bumps a little when I switch to B20, but that also seems to be getting better as I run it more on WVO. I also seem to notice as my WVO gets hottest (after long driving with AC and temps about 90C) it starts to act a little more like it does on B20 - I can feel it bumping a little at idle. Maybe it has something to do with the WVO thinning down as it gets really hot... I'm not sure... I've been toying with putting in some new Bosio nozzles, too - what do you think? Anyhow - would you recommend a Diesel Purge or should I wait a while and let the B20 and WVO work on it for a while?

Made no difference in power smoke or anything really. biodiesel is a good solvent and cleans out much better then diesel purge would ever so would i recommend it to biodiesel/wvo users? No biod or wvo cleans out old diesel gunk better then DP. I think in your case try changing out the fuel filters, the B20 may have cleaned out some old diesel gunk and is giving you rough idle.
