ULSD availability in Tampa (for 2007 E320 CDI)
Hello all,
I convinced Dad to relinquish the old Civic hybrid and to lease a 2007 E320 CDI. My concern is that he's not the most, shall we say, observant fuel consumer, and I need to educate him about the fuel stations that carry exclusively Ultra-low Sulfur Diesel. This would not be a challenge to me if I lived in the same city, but I'm now in Toronto and would like to come home for Xmas to a working CDI without its cats plugged! Anyone in the Tampa area with the scoop on ULSD stations? DL

Once the dust settles in the post 10/15/2006 era, there's going to be very limited access to LSD. 80% of all diesel production is now said to be ULSD. Regardless of the mandatory labels that HAD to be posted by 6/1/2006, many/most stations will be selling ULSD. Some station owner/operators just haven't figured out how to affix the labeling
The fines for non-compliance with the new system are $32.5k/day |

"California shifted all of its retail highway fuel to ULSD in September, but the nation as a whole has until 2010 to shift all diesel fuel pumps for highway use to ULSD."
You may have fun finding a pump that you KNOW FOR SURE is ULSD until 2010. Maybe the EPA will learn from this, fix the fuel THEN mandate the cars to use it. The only thing the individual stations had to do by June was post the correct sticker on their pumps. Almost all posted LSD stickers. "Starting on June 1st, the EPA required refiners and importers to assure that 80 percent of the diesel fuel intended for highway use would meet ULSD specifications, and since the clean fuel has worked its way through the distribution system, retail stations are now able to offer ULSD fuel." I agree with uberwgn's assessment that what is in the pump is MOST LIKELY ULSD, good luck knowing for sure. I've heard that it smells different than regular diesel. (Not my favorite method of testing my fuel. I just see me at the pump. Little sample jar in my hand trying to squeeze just a little in to the jar. Then looking at it for color/clarity/water/suspended solids. Then sniffing it. Then taking a sip and swishing it back and forth across my tongue to get a good sample of the taste, and finally spitting it out into a brass spitoon. Yep, that is good diesel!) -Jim

The Hess on US 41 south of Sarasota now sells the Ultra Low stuff. They just started to a week or two ago.

Its a lease car don't worry about it. The warranty will pick up any issues, but double check.
All the local pumps in my area are USLD.
