How do I disconnect the Cruise Control?

1983 300Sd. The cruise control aseems to have a mind of it's own. What is the best way to disconnect it? Dennis

Look for this unit on the driver side front, disconnect the cable (I believe it is a 8 pin socket)

I did that twice. It worked for about 24 hours each time. I wish it were a cure all, but it's not.
