300 engine
I have a line on an 84' engine. 120k and was running super strong. As stated above, you CAN find them up north where they rust out. This engine was already once removed from the original 300sd and is now sitting in a euro version 240. The guy will sell the whole car for around a thousand dollars to me. I just have too much stuff going on. The interior is cherry as well. Good headlight assy's etc. Email me if I can help. Car would be located in Pa @ the Ohio border. Seems like it would drive anywhere.

289 transplant...
RE: the subject of transplanting a 289 Ford into a 123 chassis.
I have never done this, but I did put one into a '62 LandRover 88 once, and have worked on Sunbeam Tigers, which are nothing but a Sunbeam Alpine with a 260/289/302 Ford engine. On the Rover, I had to turn the ex. mflds. around and swap them left for right, so that they exhausted FORWARD, and had to use a milling machine to deck the mflds to a new angle so that they didn't impinge on the spark plugs. This led to a new generator mount bracket to get the belt away from the new forward-mounted collector pipe. Thank goodness we had no power steering, air pump, or AC belt to deal with. Even with all that, it was impossible to change the right rear spark plug without cutting an access port in the firewall, so that you changed that plug in the passenger footwell. It was also impossible to change the oil filter, so a remote-mounted filter was necessary. The result of all of this was a Land Rover that could get rubber in 3rd gear, was almost uncontrollable in traffic and off-road, and went little faster than it had with a stock 4 cyl. Rover engine. The reason was that the top gear was still a 1:1 ratio, and the axle ratio was something like 4.20:1. So the Ford ran out of revs just like the Rover did. The Tiger had a lot more engineering, and a lower-ratio rear axle, thus a higher terminal velocity. It was also nose-heavy compared to an Alpine, clumsy, hot in the footwell on a summer day, and not as much fun to drive. You sort of nursed it through a corner and then punched the loud pedal, at which point it took off like a scalded dog. But it would break the rear end loose so easily that cornering was impaired. I guess my question would be: if you want a gasoline powered Mercedes, why not get one with a Mercedes engine? I used to drive my father's 1960's 250 sedan with straight six and automatic, and it would effortlessly go 110 mph. It was all engineered by the Germans, and set up to work right. seo |

We could all tell that this was one of those "roll your eyes" threads. If you can't check your oil, you certainly can't do an engine swap as complicated and foolish as was proposed. Pmally, sack up and fullfill your obligation..........

Doesn't surprise me, you get all types. Maybe since he can't figure out how to pop the hood and check his oil, he can't figure out how to send you your money?

I don't think it's misplaced. There are many posts discouraging the swap and helping to find out what went wrong that would not have been posted in another forum.
What's wrong with it? I'd rather do a unique swap like Ford 300ci I-6 than a dime-a-dozen Chevy 350 swap. |

IMO; once it is altered from the factory build sheet, it is not a Mercedes Benz, and vehicle value is scrap steel weight. I have seen too many of these abortion mobiles go across the auction block. |

Thank you
Now I can relax with my glass of Mylanta.
The title was a personal button pusher. Again; thank you for resolving the issue. |
