I have a hard timebelieving anyone who spent time in Germany in the 80's wouldnt want the AMG kit on their euro w123. I agree on a 240 its probably most usless. But they still do 80mph... A low pressure area under the car at that speed will add downforce.

And we all carry guns to fight off the crack dealers on every corner. It is just like NYPD Blue. I am raising my kids to ge gangsters so they will fit in with everyone else.

Don't lump all New Yorkers together. We are a very diverse bunch.

Regarding the grille with the big star in the middle . . . it looks like crap. Just another New Yorker with a bad attitude chiming in.

When the W123s were new, it was big business to give them the monochrome aero look. AMG made a fortune doing it. The W124 was not even produced yet. Flash forward to today and I still like the look of the W123 AMGs and Lorinssers etc., but I think more people now like the W123 for it's traditional looks with lots of chrome and anodized aluminum and square looking body. If someone wants the monochrome sideskirt look buy a W124.

Maybe not the side of rear skirts, but a nice front air dam, especially the Lorinsser that has holes for driving lights would dress the car up. They all look better with Euro bumpers. It is the way the car was designed. But go figure that some Europeans like the US bumpers better.

You do realize that the air dam would have to be about 4-6 inches closer to the road to be anything other than cosmetic? As is, it's about as useful as a giant wing on the rear of a civic. BTW, a 4000 pound, 70 horsepower car doesn't need any more down-force. This plastic crap just makes me wonder if the driver needs to have his viagra prescription refilled.

I'm almost agreeing with you, Mr. Craig-- There is a point where a spoiler really is useless. Like on Kia Rios and Chevy Aveos, but people still like them! This is a case of that.

Being strong-willed is an admirable trait, but maybe we're all being a bit overzealous here-- It is just a body kit. It won't ruin the car-- if installed correctly, on the right model-- it'll actually make the car more valuable and marketable.

Whats wrong with that?

Personally, I think a nice blacked-out w123 240D with a little lip spoiler, steelies and some sideskirts would be a great looking little car. With the 616, it is admittedly not going to be a speed demon, but who the hell has the right to police other people's tastes?!?!

Am I the only person that noticed that this company claims to have been in business for 30 years? You know what that means... Thats right-- these bits *could* be 'period correct'

Would you have such a problem if these pieces were fitted to a 1981 280CE with a 5-speed and documentation proving they were fitted in 1981?

As I said, it's a little silly to argue about taste, but IMHO it will ruin (or devalue) the car unless it can be readily removed without damage. I do remember when these kits (and these cars) were new, and I didn't like them then either. Personally, I wouldn't buy a car (then or now) with this stuff installed.

If you like it, you should do the modifications. It may increase the value to some, and decrease it to others. IMO, the W123 was a nice simple '70s design, these kits were originally intended to "update" them to a more '80s style (e.g., W124). IMHO, this was not a step in the right direction. If I liked that look, I would just buy a W124.

I think you are correct about the kit being period correct for the early 80s (sorta like leisure suits and disco), and I agree that installing this kit would be less offensive than installing something incorrect from a later period. I'm not a big fan of W123 gassers, but I would still rather see them stock. I really don't think this is a huge deal (on someone else's car), but I just don't like the look.

Agreed.

I still want to see a completely manual 240D in white with a black interior, blacked out trims and wee tiny ground effects with a black lip spoiler.

The look is so nice on 107 SLs that it cant look *that* bad, even on a 240D!

The white paint with black trim is super handsome. It wouldn't bother me if the car were as slow as Christmas! I just like the look, maybe even lowered just a tad(not that I'm ever going to do these things, just imagining them) as well.

How about this....

G'mornin' Folks,

This thread makes me smile......

How about this.....a "Retro" custom 300C...

Lower, paint a 123 Coupe two tone....say pink and white, or teal and white.... long '50's style fender skirts, a continental tire, whitewalls, wire wheels, dual Hirshmann(sp?) antennas, chrome half covers on headlights, and fuzzy dice hanging from the rear view mirror......and just imagine a diesel with functioning "lakes pipes"........doo, doo, doowop......

oh....and I forgot.....spotlights......

and Honestly.....

Me again...

If I had the talent that Boyd Coddington does, I would take a 300TD-T and cut it and weld on it.....and make a Mercedes version of an El Camino or Ranchero......maybe would call it a "Franco".......

Seriously, I have a legitimate need for a pickup......and no one makes a small, fuel efficient diesel pickup these days.....and every VW Caddy that I have looked at has the shock towers rotted out........I even wrote the "ask Dr. Z" Daimler-Chrysler ad campaign.....asking if they had any plans to put a TDi in a little pickup that would get 40+ mpg.....answer, "message forwarded to appropriate department"...corporate speak for the ol' circular file....

If I listed.......

G'mornin',

If I listed all of the cars, trucks,& motorcycles that I have owned, there would not be enough room left for a message......

I am a gearfreak, motorhead, NASCAR fan, aging hot rodder who is has lived to the point where I see a need to live a sustainable lifestyle......so now I prefer diesels......I have wanted a diesel motorcycle for at least 20 years, ever since I saw my first small air cooled Lister engine......

and why not a retro-Benz??

or a 617.95, 5 speed, T-Bucket??

ok, ok.....a 409 would be better......but.....
