EGR Location?

I was home sick from work yesterday. Got tired of blowing my nose and struggling to go get a drink so I staggered out into the garage (attached to the bedroom) popped the hood on my 87 300D to start trying to identify things. Vaccum was identified as a very likely culprit to my problems, first thing I saw was a diaphram looking thing that looked like it was a gateway between the exhaust and intake, I'm assuming this is the EGR valve.... it is unplugged from vaccum... I assume this means I'll be tearing the whole vaccum system apart and starting with the diagram in the FSM if someone has already fooled with it. What mods should I make to vaccum while I'm in there?

You don't need to restore that system to the factory specs.

The vehicle will do fine without EGR. All plumbing that controls the EGR can be eliminated. I don't have the diagram for the W124, but, the W126 has vacuum lines that run from the pump to the right side of the vehicle behind the headlight. All of these lines can be removed.

I just talked with my wife and she said she thought she smelled something sweet when she was behind the car on the way home the other day. I think I may have more issues than lack of power due to vaccum errors/leaks.

How do I tell if I have a #14 head?

sorry for dumb newbie questions.

Your wife did not smell antifreeze from 50 feet behind the vehicle. If you can smell it at all, it would be right at the tailpipe.

There's a casting number directly below the crossover pipe on the driver's side of the head. The four digits will read 14 XX. You may need a mirror to read it.

I'll check that tonight... with all of the little issues I'm probably going to be looking at spring time before this car is on the road.
