IP issue?

I have read a lot about the rack dampner, So think that is one thing wrong with my car. Check this out and tell me if I am correct please:

Rack pin all of the way in. Runs ok at full throttle (better some times than others), idles rough at times, has a dead spot in the acceleration, (this is where I can push the peddal a little and get verry little, or no response).

Is this what is wrong? Or is it the 85 CA emission crap on the IP? Can/how do I remove that stuff?

thanks
Doug

Are you saying EGR, or trap oxidizer or both. Sounds like I need to do both? and not the dampner, or the vacuum stuff on the pump.

Never trust the trap oxidizer.
Disconnect the exhaust from your turbo, support the pipe (binder straps), take it for a test drive.
If some or all of your issues are gone = a bad trap oxidizer.

Do you still have the trap-ox on this vehicle? If so, then my first plan would be a visit to the dealer for it's proper removal.

The EGR won't have any effect that you can notice.

The rack dampener won't have any effect on performance other than starting issues and idle quality. If you have the original silver style pin, it's probably time to replace it with the gold pin.......more spring stiffness........and the idle will probably improve.

Do I have these parts?

My car seems to be running pretty well, but in the spirit of preventing problems, should I remove these exhaust parts? Do I even have them?

I have an '81 300 SD that started out in New York and ended up in Florida. I have looked at associated threads hoping for pics of the parts. No luck.

Can anyone tell me if my car has any exhaust stuff I should remove or bypass and how I can identify the parts?

Excuse my ignorance.

No.
The 1981 would not have the trap oxidizer.
