Engine ID for 617...

Ok, the curiousity is getting to me, can anyone tell me anything about this engine as far as what it was originally from/ year/ hp/etc..

I took the numbers off as: 617 912 10 194 955

1980 240D w/617 motor (from?)

Thanks for the feedback Forced, 88hp...now I know why it hates the road out of my driveway so much,lol. (lot of good uphill grade)
