EBrake shoe retainer spring, Help?

84 300d
I cannot get the retainer spring on the EBrake shoe to catch. Any tips?
I have tried a small nut driver, pushing it through a stud hole. Also have tried needle nose pliers. I broke one spring already.

Which spring are you referring to?

The one in the middle?

I used a mid-sized screwdriver and pushed into the hole and rotated about 90* or so. Worked for me.

The round cone ones. I have tried screw drivers, needle nose pliers nut drivers . I just cannot get them to catch!

right, that is the one I'm speaking of.

Sorry, I cannot provide additional assistance because the mid-sized flat-bladed screwdriver did the trick for me.
