so i cut off the belt, but it has NOT fixed the issue. i can still turn on my AC knob and i regain my lost power back. what in the world can cause this. the AC is no longer hooked up via belt, what else gets turned on with the knob?

Just for S&G's, try removing the shutoff vacuum line from the injection pump and see if it makes a difference.

Well I don't have an MB yet (I'm just reading up on them cuz I plan on buying one in the next year) but I had a '78 chevy nova and it would also get extra power when the AC was switched on.. The reason was because since the AC compressor uses power, the engine has to compensate to avoid getting bogged down; so when the AC is switched on it activates a little solenoid or something that will adjust the throttle for a bit of additional power... If the compressor doesn't work then that extra power goes to your wheels!
