Thumbs up Tank strainer... can it be cleaned?

I'm going to replace the lines on the back of my SDL here (and the breather check valve) and am going to drop the strainer while in there.

Can that strainer be cleaned or should I just replace it?

yes, it can be cleaned. dont forget whatever is in the tank will come out so you will need a place for it all.

Hrm, I'll have to pick up a few buckets to hold the fuel. Don't need an Exxon Valdez in my driveway again.

O-Ring

I don't know if you run biodiesel or WVO, but I figured out the size of the o-ring that goes on the tank strainer. I bought a couple of packs of them in Viton and have the individual o-rings on my site.

If you run biodiesel/WVO you might as well put in an o-ring that will stand up to them.

socket size needed tank screen

I'd like to remove and clean the strainer, and replace the O ring for my 95 E300D. What size socket or wrench is needed? Thanks, Dave

46mm is the size. But, you're constrained on height, so, most of the 3/4" drives won't fit........

1 13/16" will also work.

The dealer has it......it's a short 1/2" drive affair......pricey......naturally.

I swapped the in and out lines before last fuel filter change on the wagon and then swapped them back. Did wonders on the idle.
