300TD mystery whirring sound from right rear

Occasionally I hear a whirring sound coming from back there when accel from stop, more along the lines of a belt squeaking? Any ideas? Wifes '80 300TD.

Is it one of the babies? Mine have been known to squeal occasionally.

Maybe something is loose and rubbing against an axle of driveshaft?

tire burnout?? heh heh.
my guess would be something in the SLS system. mine doesn't make any whirring sounds. How is the level on the SLS tank? are you possibly low on fluid?
how do you like yours? does it start in second like mine? I am amazed by the off the line power this non turbo motor has. is your quick or sluggish?

SLS is good but needs changing. Probably going to go with synthetic or whatever doesnt cost $120 per gal. Min starts in first I believe, although who knows. Off the line is all torque, its the lack of hp at 35-55 uphill onto highway that can be a bit unnerving. PO's mechanic did some changes and in 3rd it goes all the way to 55 before changing. Kind of nice when that 18wheeler decides not to change lanes .

mine holds in 3rd until about 63ish if I hold it to the floor. and I can get it to downshift to third or second with the floor mash... really no issues with acceleration on highway or hills. I love it.
let me know what can be used in the sls, my mom's 83 is totally flat, and the rear leaks pretty bad somewhere. so I will be using something to fill it with. I was thinking tractor hydrolic fluid for testing, then once the leak is fixed, replacing it with whatever MB recommends. if you find a decent fluid that is not going to cause a problem, please post it here or PM me with specifics... thanks.
