take a right and hear a clunk
I have a 1980 300sd and I just started hearing a clunking noise every time I take a right hand turn. It sounds like metal hitting metal. I also noticed that if I hit a bump in the road I hear the same sound from the right rear area. I have looked at several threads and they seem to think it could either be the sway bar or the boot. I haven't seen any threads that mention just taking a right hand turn so that is the reason I was posting. Any ideas?
I forgot to mention that today I had a blowout on the left rear tire. I went ahead and put on four new tires that are 205 75R 14 and after that I noticed the right side clunking was much louder. |
The clunking in the rear could be your sway bar links. They are easy to check. They are a little S-shaped thing. They just unbolt. The bolt ends should have a booty on them and should be fairly stiff when you try to move them. If they booty is gone or the bolt end wobbles without much effort, you need new ones. They are pretty cheap. I did this on my wagon because there was a clunk of bumps and it fixed the problem.
