w210 E300 Glow Plugs
 

Hi, I'm a new member.

Could anyone tell me how difficult it is to change the glow plugs on the above.

Any help at all much appreciated.

A search will bring up more on that job than you'll have time to read. The manifold has to come off and if all of the plugs come out in one piece, it's a pretty easy job. However, there are lots of stories about glow plugs breaking off in the head. Many have had to remove the head to fix it. I may have been lucky, but I was able to drill mine out.

Why are you wanting to change them? Have you tested them with an ohm meter and found some weak or bad?

If your fuel lines are original on the car, then it would probably be wise to change the fuel lines, O rings and washers while the manifold is off.

I need to change the plugs as the warning light stays on suggesting that at least one or two of the plugs are faulty.

Removing and re-installing the intake manifold is no big deal. If the glow plugs unscrew easily you'll be done in no time. If they don't, it's a PIA. The three things needed to get the job done properly are time, patience, and plenty of WD-40, Rustek, or you're preferred penetrant. I've never had to remove a cylinder head to repair the threads, but I've spent many hours going back and forth to convince the glow plugs to finally break loose. While you're in there, replace the plastic fuel lines if they've never been done. You'll be saving yourself the time and cost of removing the intake manifold again when they start leaking. Good luck
