Fuel Tank fitting

I'm going to replace the hose / fitting coming out of the fuel tank strainer of my 1981 240 D. Do I need to put any sealer on the metal fitting of the hose where it screws into the center of the tank strainer ?

Replacement of fuel supply hose

I just replaced mine on a 1983 300 and the dealer said to apply no sealant on the threads, just snug it up. It is not leaking. I also had to cut down the hose to fit, and the remainder of the hose was the length I needed to replace the hose for the fuel returning to the tank.
