To Glow or NOT to glow in my case

the details

1 removed old loop GP
1.5 tested each GP with cables all glow cherry red
2 replaced 80amp fuse
3 my son decides to listen to radio when i leave for a few min [turned key to glow position] . can this be my problem??
4 intstall fast glow pencil GP [did not ground #1 GP]
5 turn key no gp indicator/no start
6 relay on lower column clicks on and off
7 hot lead from fuse to GP #4w/ removed has 12vdc however when connected no voltage drop seen at the GP's
8 used jumper cables + conected old loop GP on garage floor in series no glow no GP indicator
9 i think that i am only seeing a static 12vdc at wire [no real amperage]
? is there another fuse or relay to test
conclusion: hopfully you all can tell me.

What are you looking for?

Come on guy - name the problem. Also, don't leave the keys in the vehicle and your kid won't play with it. Be smart!

there is a relay under the dash. not sure what you are asking, you have upgraded to pencil GP's right? is there voltage at the GP's when the key is set to glow? if so, and the plugs are all good, you should be golden. with a good battery, 5 pencil GP's all running will drop the voltage down to around 11.2 or so. if you are seeing 12.anything, the GP's are all bad. disconnect the wire loop and measure the resistance to ground on each plug. it should read with a good digital meter about 0.6 ohms

problem solved
it was poor contact on fuse holder and engine ground. had voltage but wasn't enough amperage. starts real good. when i have more time i'll install the new relay assy. that came w/ kit. i think it will help when it gets below 30 deg.

Let us know how they work. I have a '77 240D that I want to try those glow plugs on.

Best of all is you told us what the problem was. This lets others that might experience the same problem know what to look for.
