First "Official" tank of ULSD, so far so good...

Filled up the '98 E300 DT yesterday morning in Merrimack, NH and noticed the first "ULSD" sticker on the pump there. ($2.43/Gal, not bad)

It took nearly 18 gallons so that was about 85%-90% of the tank. I drove to NJ and back about 550 miles and got about 33MPG out of it averaging 70-80 MPH so it is just about what I'd been seeing with the old stuff...I suspect they've been transitioning to it around here for some time but this is the first time I ever saw the official sticker notice...anyway, so far so good, no fuel leaks, no noticeable change in performance. The car, as always, drove flawlessly.

I saw diesel prices no lower on my whole trip and on the NYS thruway the price was $2.99!!!

I've been filling with it since I bought my diesel.

I always run some additive in the gas for a lube. It's usually the cheapest bottle of ATF I can find; or if I have the money, DieselKleen/Diesel911. Usually use a bottle of "Heet" (red bottle) when I feels theirs water in the tank.

Marval Magic Mystery oil work great, I always pick up a couple of bottles when I'm at murrys (it seems they know me by name there now...)

At 140 miles a day, I've run through many, many, many tanks of ULSD. Nothing's changed - no mileage drop. Smells less "stinky" when filling up however.

Same here, I've probably burned over 250 gallons of the stuff by now, and the only difference I've noted is the reduced smell/smoke, reduced mileage (about 2mpg), and it idles a little "smoother" (sounds more like a big truck) than before....though that could be in my head.

I've been through about 4 or 5 tankfuls of ULSD, with no additives added. I've noticed no difference in how the car runs, no drop in fuel mileage, no fuel leaks, but less black smoke, though the "diesely smell" exhaust still lingers.

What's the deal with LSD stickers still showing on pumps? I'm still seeing them in some places (like WV and OH this weekend). I thought the ULSD deadline was October 15.

Some stations do not have any stickers at all posted.

Almost all the pumps in my area, with the exceptions of a Hess station in North Hampton, and an Irving in Seabrook, still have the old LSD sticker on the pumps. How much effort is it to replace these with the appropriate ULSD stickers?
Unless the suppliers still do not have confidence their fuel meets the gov'ts stringent specifications.
We all know the penalties of violating this jurisdiction mandate("$$$$$$$").
Still, the stickers remain "LSD". And its been almost a month since the "deadline" has passed.

I had been averaging, in my 350SD, almost the same as in my 300SE. About 23 mpg.
It is actually MUCH cheaper filling the gasser (even with 93) vs. the diesel. The mileage is a wash...!

Driving the gasser since last week. Hard to get used to the way it drives. The M103 isn't much off the line, and the 2nd gear start is loathesome (shift to "2" then back to "D" to override gets tiresome). Yet once its moving, its hard to hold it back.

I think they have to keep the LSD stickers on until several complete or near complete fills of ULSD have reduced the level of sulfur in the supply tank to ULSD levels, therefore some stations still have too much old stuff mixed with the new to be certified as meeting the ULSD standard...I bet within a month all the stations will be ULSD.

There's a fueling station at the grocery store where I work. Every so often we'll get a dishonest trucker that'll try to short us when delivering fuel so someone has to go out there with them while they empty the tanker, usually me. I sign the paperwork for the fuel and we've had several fill-ups of ULSD but we've still got the stickers on our pumps. I think my boss just forgot so I'll have to ask him about it. I never fill up anywhere else so I don't know about the rest of the stations around here. I also have been getting the same mpg as before, about 23-24 depending on how hard I push it.

UPDATE - Now I have a leak at the IP

Looks like I spoke too soon. I've noticed over the past few days some hesitation, slight as it might be, upon heavy acceleration. Then today, the engine went into what I can only describe as a spasm where it was struggling just to keep at around 25MPH going down a side street.

I pulled over to find the top of the IP is wet with fuel, running down and over the shutoff valve. Looks like I will have to tackle the delivery valve seals sooner rather than later...I really think it is reasonable to blame ULSD at this point since up until this second tank of it the car had no leaks whatsoever.

It's back to running OK now, with the same occaisional hesitation that I had been seeing recently.

Oh well, at least I already bought the splined socket in anticipation of having to tackle this project sometime...I had just hoped it would have proven to be a tool I'd never have to actually use.

The spasms are probably caused by clogged filters. ULSD seems to be cleaning the walls of the fuel tanks (the station's and yours) and dumping it off in the filters.

Sounds like I lucked up running B100 all summer. I know it cleaned out the entire fuel system. I still have several of the used fuel filters to prove it

I guess now I only have to deal with the crap from the station's tank.

I did notice the station I used last night still have the LSD sticker, and not the ULSD one. I also noticed that they had a filter at the pump, but it looked like it hadn't been changed in a while...

If it looks old and the fuel is still flowing fast then one of three things is going on.
1- Their tank is really clean and so it their fuel.
2- They gutted the inside of the filter so it NEVER slows down, or filters for that matter.
3- The filter has such a large particle size rating that it is only catching the chunks.
