I live in Middletown, MD (Frederick County). I don't know of any really good junk yards nearer than King George VA.

I guess real estate might be in too high a demand out there to allow for pick n pulls. Just a guess, I've never lived in the east, just visited.

Here in the Bay area, many of the yards are actually close to the bay. In the south bay, the area around the water is so flat that you have several miles of land til you get to the water -- there's no real view of the water in that acreage and when you get halfway close, it stinks like hell.

In SF itself, shore property is in very high demand but that's cause the land rises up sharply from the water, you have a nice view.

The trunk leak could be that, or the trunk seal OR the taillight/taillight seal, water can come in through there.

Those leaks are difficult to source. I took it to the SF dealer who replaced the taillight and it still leaked. A good way to source the leak is to have your girlfriend get inside the trunk of the car with a flashlight, then close the trunk and you spray water from the hose all over the trunk of the car.

I learned about this the hard way, the SF MBZ dealer couldn't even fix the trunk leaks on mine, but it finally was somehow fixed. They went by trial and error

Great that you are bringing the car back little by little. That's hard to do on a budget, but you will not regret each improvement. The early W126 diesels were really built to last (so were all the 126 diesels, except the 350SD, and gassers.

Rain is coming soon! Believe it or not, clogged sunroof drains can cause leaks into the car around the windshield.
This would be good advice for me if I hadn't already done a couple of threads trying to source the problem. I mean, thanks anyway.

Checked the sunroof drains, good. And the trunk seal and tail-light seals by climbing in with a flashligt and having a friend spray it like hell. All good. I'm almost positive it's the rear window seal. I discovered some dripping after a rain from the roof of the trunk under the window area. I filled the gap around the window with a product someone recommended for it, I forget what it was. It improved it quite a bit but it still leaks.

I can imagine replacing the seal would be a PITA and I gather that it's easy to break the wires for the rear de-fogger. Only the upper half works now and I'd hate to lose that.

I'm thinking I might just put in more goop in the channel around the widow. Maybe clear silicone this time.

The 123 chassis is the 240D 300D 300CD and 300TD. 82 and up 123 300 series had the turbo 617 engine. The 240 is the N/A 4 cylinder diesel. The 123 also came in gasser models, the 230 and the 280.
I knew some, but not all of that.

What is an E23s though? Also the E55 that Black E55/Ted named himself after, what the hay-ell is that?
