My 87 diesel develops a rough idle after several miles of driving, I checked with the dealer, said that 87 does not have a rack damper screw. He thought it might be the EGR valve or a vacuum leak. I can't find the vacuum pump going to the EGR. Has anyone else had the same problem? How do I fix it.

Tell us a little more about your vehicle. Miles? When you say rough, is the engine idle rpm bouncing around or is it just louder than normal? Is there any noticeable oil or coolant consumption?
