Matt,

I'm a newbie to the board but wish to send my condolences nonetheless -- I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

I always liked Dave's attitude; I wish I could have met him in person.

What a loss; both to his family and this silly little community.

Please accept my condolences.
I can only think that much of his personality is reflected in his posts here.
An informal, yet proper, forum such as this is really an amazing thing for the good and sometimes humorous things that are posted.
It allows this little community to stretch across the globe and share knowledge of all kinds from people we'd likely never meet otherwise.

From what I've read, your dad's posts were very thoughtful. He was a good writer. Some people write books. Others write far less than a book and communicate much more.

Since the internet is a changing thing, I kindly suggest copying as much as you can regarding his posts, as they may be deleted in the future for one reason or another.
Then, print them out. Paper is inexpensive and it's something that can be passed down, should something go kablewy with digital media.

I wish I could have had even random bits of knowledge my grandfather imparted to others. Older relatives tell me my Great Grandfather worked with Rudolph Diesel and that my grandfather also had a great knack for things mechanical which, if genetic, has been passed to me.

I think there is something valuable worth hanging on to from your dad in this forum, in addition to any memories you may have.

How is it that I can have tears in my eyes over someone I never knew? I don't know, but I do.

I have a 7 year old son who likes to help me with the cars and other stuff around the house. I love all my children equally but Chris and I have a special bond through our mutual interest in working on stuff.

One can only imagine that you and your dad had similar bonds but even stronger because you had more years together because my son is still young. I hope you guys had some good time together in the last few weeks. It sounds like it was sudden and maybe you did not have a chance to say goodbye.

I am so sorry for your loss. Try and maintain through these dark times, and remember that someone is always here at Mercedesshop.com.

P.S. Your dad almost made it to 1000 posts.

Matt, try to remember the things you did together as father and son over the years. Your loss of your father does mean something to people that have never actually met him. I think it is the human condition to shed a tear when someone who shares a common interest has left the scene. I try hard to share time and interests with my son in law. This is a reminder that time is not finite for us older guys as well. Your father had the fortitude to always quote father and son. Not all that commom if you think about it at all...For me I periodically wonder about what might have been had my father lived longer. My condolences to your whole family and I personally thank you for letting us know. I think he would have wanted that.

I too was touched by Dave, in fact I am driving a car as a result of his suggesting I go take a look at it. It was the subject of "'87 300D turbo fs $450 in Santa Cruz" It turned out to be a big project, taking me 8 months to get it roadworthy, now its a daily driver. I was hoping to show it to Dave some weekend and let him take it for a spin.
We shall miss him!
